Your TV must be a digital TV to use this digital antenna. If it is an analog TV, you will need a digital converter box for your TV.
You MUST rescan your TV channels any time a new antenna is attached. Your previously saved channels are synced to your previous antenna. You must resync the new antenna with the TV by rescanning the channels. Simply connect the new antenna without rescanning the TV channels won't work! It is also highly recommended you rescan the TV channels after repositioning your antenna.
Please visit https://www.fcc.gov/media/engineering/dtvmaps for a list of available free digital channels in your area.
If you live in a metal home or home with metal roof, you should not use indoor TV antenna, as TV signal can't penetrate into metal. Signals will be bounced back.
    NOT 3,600 MILES
Many sellers in eBay claim their antennas can receive 980 miles, 3,600 miles, or even 5,000 miles TV programs. According to Google map, straight distance from Houston, Texas to Dallas, Texas is around 220 miles. Can people in Houston receive TV programs from Dallas? ABSOLUTELY NOT, regardless what antenna you use. You can also see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_antenna for more information.
An antenna, as a receiver, is only good when TV signals can reach it. We put 3,600 miles in the title simply because other sellers make false claim and many buyers don't know that, and think our antenna is not a good one. In fact, our antenna will give high quality 4K/1080p with crystal clear HD pictures.
You should always use https://www.fcc.gov/media/engineering/dtvmaps to check what channels are available in your area.
At the bottom of the page, we will show you how to calculate maximum reception distance.

    Physics of Signal Travel
We know the Earth is a round globe. Let 'O' be the center of the earth, 'R' be the radius of the earth, and 'h' be the height of the TV tower, as shown in the figure below (figure not to scale).
Let 'P' be a point on the surface, such that TP is the tangent to the earth's surface. Obviously, no signal can be received beyond point 'P'. SP (d) is then the maximum distance that the TV signal can be received. We need to calculate SP.
It now becomes very simple geometry problem that we have learnt in the middle school.
OPT is right angled triangle. We know from geometry knowledge:
    OT
    2
    = OP
    2
    + PT
    2
Since h is very small compared to maximum receiving distance d, therefore TP ≈ SP = d
    ∴ (R + h)
    2
    ≈ R
    2
    + d
    2
    ∴ R
    2
    + 2Rh + h
    2
    ≈ R
    2
    + d
    2
    ∴ d
    2
    ≈ 2Rh + h
    2
Again, since h is very small compared to earth radius R, therefore, h
    2
    can be neglected
    ∴ d
    2
    ≈ 2Rh
    ∴ d ≈ √
    2Rh
    We know earth radius R = 6400 km = 6.4 x 10
    6
    m
Using the above equation, we can calculate the maximum distance that the signal can be received at different tower heights:
    TV Tower Height
    Maximum Distance in Kilometers
    Maximum Distance in Miles
    100 m
    35.77 km
    22.23 miles
    150 m
    43.82 km
    27.23 miles
    200 m
    50.6 km
    31.44 miles
    300 m
    61.97 km
    38.51 miles
    500 m
    80 km
    49.71 miles
    2000 m
    160 km
    99.42 miles
    8000 m
    320 km
    198.84 miles
From above calculation table, to be able to receive 200 miles TV programs, the TV tower height has to be 8,000 meters (8 km) high into the sky! Highest peak on Earth is 8,848 meters (8.8 km) at Mount Everest at Himalayas!
The above calculation has not even considered signal attenuation, which is a more advanced topic. To illustrate, consider you are sitting in front of a fireplace, the closer you are to the fireplace, the more heat you feel. The farther you are, the less heat you feel.
It is now obvious that the maximum reception distance is determined by the TV signal source at the TV tower. It has nothing to do with TV antenna. An antenna is just a receiving device. TV Antenna does not transmit any signal! If there is no TV signal around your area, an antenna becomes useless.
How unreal it is when someone claims 980 miles, 3,600 miles, or even 5,000 miles. We should refuse to support dishonest sellers!
